By Mark Millmore
Hieroglyphs at the base of the Hatshepsut's Obelisk part of which describe their manufacture:
"I remembered the One who created me and my heart directed me to make two obelisks for him of electrum that their pyramidions might mingle with the sky amid pillared hall between the great pylons of Tuthmosis I. My Majesty began the work in the year 15 and continued until Year 16.  It took 7 months to cut them from the mountain."
